GU Lady Bison Team on a Roll: 6 Wins and 0

After beating Lebanon Valley College during the GU Holiday tournament, the excitement among the Bison Lady team continued to roll on winning next three games. They were so determined to continue winning games as I sat on the court side encouraging the girls to play to their fullest. They did.
The game on December 1, 2010 against the Wilson College went very well because they did an outstanding job in executing the offense plays and with their defense plays. The best part of the game was that every player on the team had the opportunity to be on the court and to play. For those players who got the opportunities to play, they sure did play their best for which I admired them for doing that. It gave me a great pleasure to see how much fun those players have had on the court. It ended up with an easy victory; the score was 71 to 38.
Now a road trip to the state of New York, specifically Ithaca, New York which took us seven hours of a bus ride, I must admit that it was a quite experience for me, not about the bus ride itself- the atmosphere of a bus ride has changed since I rode on a charter bus with a men basketball team about 30 years ago. I recall remembering when I was a manager riding on the bus with the GU Men basketball team to New York City for a week end tournament; the bus we rode was so plain and simple. Nothing else was on the bus, just a two lined of passenger seats- those players I recalled were tall and huge compared to my size being a 5’6”- they were complaining about the space of seating causing them to squeeze together to sit together on a two seated chair. Like I said nothing fancy was on the bus; the boys had to bring their homework and books to read while traveling. On those long trips, from time to time, one or two of the boys would get up on an aisle side and began to tell jokes or stories to occupy our times on the bus. No technology was on the bus at that time; all we did was talk and talk on the way!
Now with this recent road trip to New York as an assistant coach for the GU women basketball team, I had a total different experience of riding on a bus compared to 30 years ago experience being a manager for GU Men basketball team. Technology is here so is the bus with the Wi Fi internet which I was able to use my laptop computer to check out emails while traveling. Not only those, the players of both Women and Men teams were using their pagers to communicate with their friends and loved ones. From my experience on this recent long trip, no one seemed to be bored or complained about the bus ride except for the food which they were always hungry for. It amazes me to see how transformed the technology has done to us in last few decades, especially with the sport athletes who are riding on a Wi Fi bus knowing that they will have the ability to access to their University Blackboard to complete the necessary assignments or projects while traveling. That is truly a champion academic venture for those athletes today. Bless the technology in some ways.
On a sweet note, the two games the GU women basketball team had won its two games; the first one on December 4 against Wells College- a well done game by GU lady bison team winning by a good margin of 81 to 62. Then a game against Keuka College on December 5 was a thriller; it was no easy task to win but we won the game, 60 to 57. Before the game, Keuka College and our team were only teams that were undefeated in our NEAC conference. Now I am proud to say that our Lady Bison team is currently leading in winning in our NEAC conference.
Our next home game is on December 8 against Penn. St. - Abington. Also be sure to check the website: www.gallaudetathletics.com for more exciting and detailed news about our lady bison team and as well as for Men basketball team.
Now I am truly proud to be a Gallaudet alumni helping out with my beloved GU women basketball team. As Coach Cook notes in his every huddle with his players and coaches, “One Team, One Goal”- I intend to follow and prevail this goal when we arrive at the ending of the basketball season which is the NCAA Final Four. Go Lady Bison!
Until next time!
With a basketball love,
Coach Sam

GU Holiday Tournament: Lady Bison Team Rocks On

I am still in awe about our Gallaudet women basketball team for winning the championship at the GU Holiday tournament past this week end. The experiences I have had over the week end with the team are simply a championship! Why? Simply put, the Bison lady team did deserve to win the tournament putting their energy and efforts to execute the two games. They truly wanted to win the tournament which they did.
Results are here if you don’t follow the Gallaudet Athletic website-
November 27, 2010 Gallaudet vs. Penn St. – York (83 – 27) November 28, 2010 Gallaudet vs. Lebanon Valley (80 – 69) CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!
What makes me so awe about the tournament? See I have been a huge fan of GU Holiday tournament for a long time and been following with the games for years and years. It is me that I enjoyed coming to the tournament every year watching both men and women games; the real reason I enjoyed the most was the gathering of families by players who attended the games. From time to time I had the opportunity to witness the true sense of a family love among the players after the games they played and greeted their loved ones. That was so inspiring to me to know how many those parents who came to the tournament to watch their sons or daughters to play ball. That was a pure love I have had witnessed in my long term coming to the tournament. That was me sitting on a 12th or 15th row of the field house seating on a team side for many years. That is a pure love among parents of Gallaudet basketball players!
Now I got the different and new experience to be able to engage with the GU women basketball team on the court past this week end. Instead of sitting on a fan row like I explained in previous paragraph; I cannot describe how thrilled I was to be able to sit beside the coaches and players throughout the tournament week end. These experiences I had this week end were so enriching, moving, and humble to be able to handle with. It was so much fun for me to sit on a court sided with coaches and players and watched our beloved bison players played their games. The experiences I had over this week end as an assistant coach for the GU women basketball team and winning the GU Holiday tournament was so delicious to my plate! That is an example of a good dinner knowing that our team is on a roll to a championship journey. As the buzzer came on, the winning score came in with GU 80 to Lebanon Valley 69; my eyes have burst with teary begun to dropped feeling how much I was happy to be a part of the GU women basketball team this year.
Please check it out with the http://www.gallaudetathletics.com/ for more detailed information about the GU Women and Men basketball teams.

Our next game is on December 1 against Wilson College.

Lady Bison Team Earns its First Victory!

Hello,

Tonight the game between Gallaudet University and Christendom College was great. The final score is 101 to 41.

The Lady Bison team won the game from many good fastbreak lay ups and a lot of inside shots from players. The first half was alright as they were trying to adjust their motions in running their offense plays and used man to man defense trying to stop Christendom's operation of offense plays.

Then the second half was a different story because our girls were fired up with a determination to play better defense with more pressures on Christendom players. They did and won the game.

From the tonight's game, I had the pleasure to be able to give Lady Bison players "High-Five" hand slaps for winning their first game.

Be sure to check the full story written by the SID (Sports Information Director) at Gallaudet. Here is the link. www.gallaudetathletics.com Enjoy

Our next game is on Saturday against the Penn St.- York.

Gallaudet University Women Basketball Team

Hello

First of all, it has been a great while since I posted something related to basketball. So here I am back with the love of basketball!

This coming Monday (November 22) our Gallaudet University Women Basketball team will have its own first basketball game against the Christendom school; we are very pumped about the game. I am so excited to be able to help out with the team, especially with the Head Coach Kevin Cook, a veteran WNBA Assistant Coach with the Houston Comets, who will guide the Gally team to a first victory on Monday!

More to come with results of a Monday's game will be posted after I engage into the game with Coach Cook.

With a basketball love,

Coach Sam
